Macbeth, a celebrated war hero, encounters three witches in the fog of the heath after a victory. What they say sounds at first like mockery, then like a promise—and finally like a poison eating away at his thoughts. When the first parts of the prophecy seem to actually come true, ambition becomes certainty: The throne is no longer a dream, but a plan. And a plan requires action.

Macbeth * Lady consistently portrays this escalation as a chain reaction: A word spoken at the wrong time, a glance that means too much, a misunderstanding in the marriage—and suddenly the world is turned upside down.

But beware, takeover! Lady Macbeth steps out of the shadows and takes over the stage.
